Editor’s note: As Keon Raymond was starting to work on this blog, teammate Rob Maver walked by and called him “Pick-a-Day Ray.” Therefore, Keon starts with an explanation of that nickname, which seems very fitting these days considering his league-leading four interceptions.
Oh man, that was a good nickname when I was in college at Middle Tennessee State. I guess I’m getting back to that form. I’m just getting a chance to get my hands on balls, man, and it’s feeling great.
It sure felt great to get that interception on Saturday and get that win against Montreal. That’s a good team we were going up against and it was a 60-minute battle. At the end, I had an opportunity to make a play and I was blessed to be able to make that play and give our offence another shot.
Then, on the next play, they took it right on into the end-zone for the touchdown that gave us the win. It worked out great.
I wish I would have kept that ball, but at least I could always say I picked off Anthony Calvillo. He’s probably going to go down as one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game of football and I can say that I got him.
We just tried to not let him get too much into a rhythm. He’s a rhythm passer and once he gets going, like he did in the first half, he’s tough. We mixed things up a little bit in the second half and had him chopping his feet a little bit.
Montreal also has some big receivers and they can be physical. I’m not going to let those guys push me around. I’m one of the vets out there and I’ve got to hold my ground and show my guys that I’m out here ready to fight, too.
That win shows great character for our team. They battled for 60 minutes and to overcome some adversity shows what kind of team we are. I’m proud of all my teammates. This was a huge win. This shows that we’re going to be a team to be reckoned with.
We’re going to celebrate this one but now we’ve got to get ready for the Labour Day Classic against Edmonton.
