Stamps mourn death of Royal Copeland

The Stampeders are mourning the death of alumni Royal Copeland. The Toronto native passed away on Monday at the age of 86.RCopeland_110809.jpg

After a distinguished career with the Toronto Argonauts, which included four all-star team nominations and four Grey Cup championships, Copeland joined the Stampeders in 1950. He led Calgary in rushing yards and touchdowns in 1950 and was second in both kick returns and interceptions.

In his two seasons with the Stamps, Copeland carried the ball 149 times for 564 yards and six touchdowns, had 39 receptions for 484 yards and two scores, 26 kick returns for 339 yards and three interceptions.

He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1988.
