The Stamps held on to sole possession of second spot in the West Division in Week 5 with a 22-18 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium.CgyHamh2h.jpg

Meanwhile, the Ticats defeated the Montreal Alouettes 34-26 to climb into second place in the East. Hamilton and Montreal actually sported the same record after Week 5 but the Tabbies were technically in second place thanks to their head-to-head win over the Larks.

After an 0-2 start, the Ticats have defeated Saskatchewan, BC and Montreal by a combined score of 106-60.

The Stamps, meanwhile, have won three of their past four contests after dropping their season-opener against Toronto.

The Red and White has an unorthodox home-road split so far in 2011 — the Stamps are 0-2 in Calgary and 3-0 away from McMahon Stadium — but considering all five games so far have been decided by five points or fewer, the discrepancy seems more like a statistical anomaly than a pattern.

The Stamps swept the season series from the Ticats in 2010, winning a squeaker (23-22) at Hamilton’s Ivor Wynne Stadium on July 10 and a rout (55-24) at McMahon on Oct. 29.

Calgary is looking to be more efficient on the attack as the Stamps rank just sixth in points scored despite being third in the CFL with 366 offensive yards per contest.

The defence has been solid so far in 2011 as the Stamps rank in the league’s top three in 19 categories. The Calgary “D” is No. 1 in fewest first downs allowed, fewest passing first downs, fewest pass completed, lowest pass-completion percentage and most interception-return yards.
