It was a week ago that I arrived in Calgary and it’s been good. I’ve been adjusting to being a Stampeder and learning my plays and everything else that comes with joining a new team. It’s been a good experience so far.
Everything in terms of joining the team happened really quick last week and I was able to bring a few things with me but I don’t have too much personal stuff. I have just enough to get by. It was a matter of hours and days that everything just happened but I’m excited to get another chance to play and be on the field again.
It’s been a whirlwind experience, to say the least. I have a place to stay, so that’s good. My family — my wife and my son — is still back in Vancouver. I talk to them every day and I miss them, but it’s also nice to be here and playing football.
It’s great to be back out on the field and playing the game that you love. It’s fun just being with the guys — the camaraderie with your teammates is one of the best things about playing football. That’s something you won’t have after football so it’s great to get another chance to do that now.
When you arrive in a locker-room for the first time, it doesn’t take long for the other guys to get a nickname for you and everything else. It’s a great locker-room and a great bunch of guys here.
I’m getting use to the red and white and black colours after all those years of orange when I was with BC. It’s been good — I think I look pretty good in red!
The learning of the playbook is coming along. A lot of the plays are similar and it’s just the terminology that’s different. I’ve been studying it and I’m really starting to know the offence. The guys on the team have definitely helped me out. If I have questions, I just ask the coaches or the guys and they’ve helped me out.
Our next game is on the road against Saskatchewan. That can be a daunting place to go and play but I kind of like it. I like the atmosphere that they have there and the passionate fans that they have. It’s a great football experience to play there. I’m looking forward to it.
The fans behind the visitors’ bench throw everything at you but it’s great, especially when you can get a win in there. We’re looking forward to playing our best and hopefully coming out with a win.
