Dixon: Glad to get the chance

I got the call to play Friday’s game at BC and I thought my first regular-season game action in the CFL went pretty good overall. I think I did a good job.

We watched the film, broke everything down and there’s definitely room for corrections. So you get right back to practice and just continue to get better.KDixon_110712.jpg

It was big that we got a chance to make a play on just the second defensive play of the night when we stopped the Lions on second down and forced them to punt. It was big for us to come up on second-and-short and make that big play when we were backed up in our territory and they were threatening to score. That was really key.

The first half, we played real well. I think the Lions only had 39 yards. In the second half, we still played hard but you have to give credit to BC because they made plays. We just have to take those mistakes that we made and learn from them.

My transition to the Canadian game and the Stampeders defence has been great. I’ve played in defences similar to this before, it’s just different terminology. So picking up the defence has been fine. My thing is just to continue to get better technique-wise and in all the small things.

As a defensive lineman, the biggest adjustment is learning to play a yard off the ball. Even before I came up to Calgary, I was working on that in my training. So I’m comfortable with it now.

I’m a guy from Sebring, Florida. Coming out of high school, I went to junior college for two years and then to Nebraska for a year and then finishing up at Troy. It’s like I’ve been everywhere and played in all kinds of schemes.

Now, just being here with a good group of guys and coaches, has been great, to say the least.
