There was lots happening during that game in Vancouver last night but if I had to boil it down to a few sentences, I’d say this — the defence played great and the offence executed when it had to.
It all added up to a big win for us, and that’s what it’s all about.
That punt return by Larry Taylor at the end of the first half to set up our first touchdown was so huge. I can’t say enough about how important that was for us to turn the momentum around and get things going our way. That was a great play by him.
And the ending of the game? What can you say? It was a little crazy but you have to give our defence major credit for going back on the field and getting the job done with the game on the line.
For myself, I was just glad I was able to take advantage of the opportunity. We didn’t know what was going to happen with Ken-Yon all week and whether he was going to be able to play, but the team told me to prepare as if I was going to be playing just in case I did get in there. So that’s what I did — I worked really hard to make sure I was ready.
I thought I had a pretty good game but at the same time, I still think there’s room for improvement. There’s always room for improvement and you have to work as hard as you can to keep getting better all the time.
I was happy with the catches and the touchdown and the kickoff returns, but I think the thing I was the proudest about was the block on Nik’s catch that helped him get loose for a touchdown. I know that blocking is the weakest part of my game so it felt great to get that block in and see Nik spring loose for the touchdown.
This was a good win for us and now we just have to keep on building on it.
