Tonight is our first road game and we know we have to go out there and by physically and mentally prepared.
BC is a good team and they’re a physical team — they’ve been hitting people pretty hard lately. We have to go out there and match their physical toughness and do whatever we have to do to win that physical battle.
That’s our game plan is to play a physical game. We have some guys on our team who can do some hitting and we can pound the ball on offence also. We’re going out there to do whatever we need to do to win the game.
Travis Lulay is a good quarterback. He’s athletic, he can move in the pocket, he has a nice arm and he’s got a good receiving cast to help him out. What we have to do defensively, especially in the backfield, is to play good man-to-man coverage and be disciplined when we switch it up to zone.
We have to go out there and know our assignments, play fast and physical and put our hands on some guys, try to shut the receivers’ routes down and try to make it hard for Travis Lulay to get the ball in there, to force him to make perfect throws.
It may only be Week 2, but every game is a big game and we want to start the season on the right path. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win the game last week at home so now we have to go into Vancouver and make it tough on BC in the Lions’ home-opener. We don’t want them to start a winning streak against us so we have to play hard and play tough and leave it all out there on their field.
There’s no holding back. It’s a long season but we want to start this rolling early so that it won’t be as hard for us later on. We can set our own destiny with these opening games.
This is our first true road trip as a team this season and we just want to make sure we’re doing the right things. Vancouver is a pretty busy city, as we all know, but we have to be disciplined and realize what’s most important.
We’re in Vancouver on a business trip and we’re here to win a football game. That’s our focus and that’s what we’ve hammered home with some of the younger guys. We’re here for one purpose only and that’s to win a game. If that’s not your primary purpose, there’s no sense even going out there.
