Antwi: The real work is still ahead

It feels good to have survived training camp and made the roster. I work up Saturday morning feeling a little bit nervous because I didn’t know what was going to happen and whether I was going to be here this afternoon.Antwi_110627.jpg

So coming in and seeing that my name was still up on the locker . . . it’s a great feeling. A great feeling.

Like anything, there were some good moments and there were some bad moments for me during training camp and the pre-season. I made a couple of plays but it’s still not good enough as far as I’m concerned. There’s always room for improvement.

So my camp was good and bad at the same time. But I’m fortunate that the good outweighed the bad and I’m still here.

During camp, I made the switch from the defensive line to linebacker. I played linebacker during my first two years of college, so going back to linebacker wasn’t a big change but it has been a while. And even when I was playing the position, I was playing outside linebacker, not inside. So it’s been different but as the saying goes, “Football is football.” No matter where you are on the field, it’s still the same sport.

The best thing about playing linebacker is being able to see everything. You see all the formations and everything whereas when you’re on the line, you’re more preoccupied with the guy in front of you.

Now that I’ve gotten through camp, it’s good but now the real work is ahead of me. I know I’m not going to get a lot of playing time on defence and I’m OK with that. I know I can help the team on special teams and I’m looking forward to that.
