My impression of camp so far is that the Stamps are a great organization. They have a lot of great guys — coaches and veterans are all working hard for one common goal and that’s to win. I like that a lot.
I have a couple of friends back home who play in the CFL — Jason Vega and Marcellus Bowman, who are with Winnipeg — and I talked to them to get an idea of what to expect. But at the end of the day, you really don’t know until you get here. It’s been new and different but at the end of the day, it’s football and I’m happy to be here.
I played college ball at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. It’s about 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia and they’re a Division 2 program. I played there for five years including a redshirt year. I played a little basketball there as well.
When I was coming out, I was getting ready for the draft and I had a couple of injuries so I’ve been rehabbing and working to get back. I’m happy to be back in football.
Coming through Division 2 kind of gives you a chip on your shoulder. Not too many have heard of your school but at the end of the day, if you’re good enough, I believe that they find you. All you can do is work and prepare yourself for whatever opportunities come your way.
After the first pre-season game, I fully realize now that the CFL game is a little different. It’s a faster pace and the field is a lot bigger, so there was a little adjustment but once you get playing, it’s football. That kind of simplifies things a little bit.
I was able to get a couple of sacks during the game, but that’s a team thing. Everything is schemes and it just so happened I was the guy to get the sacks. Any other day, it could have been somebody else.
I’m still looking to get better and that’s my main goal. Every day, I’m trying to impress the coaches and take everything they teach me and use it on the field. Hopefully, at the end of the day, it’s enough.
