Collins: Learning playbook a challenge

The biggest challenge for me here in my first pro camp is just learning the offence. That’s a real challenge to me. Once I get a hold of the plays, I feel like I’ll be able to be good.

I went to college at Wagner, which is a small D-1AA school. The play-calling is just way different. Back at Wagner, it was simple and basic and I didn’t really have to think too much. It was just Collins_110617.jpggoing out there and playing. But with this offence, I have to think a little bit more and really get into the playbook.

After I was done in college, I went to a pro day but myself and some of my teammates were kept out of half of the events and I didn’t really get chance to show myself. The following week, I decided to go to New Jersey for a tryout with Calgary and they called me back and invited me to mini-camp and then to training camp.

I’ve been enjoying myself here at camp with the Stamps. I like the team, I like the players, I like the coaches. Now it’s just about learning the plays.

A lot of people ask me about my uncle Tony, who played in the NFL with the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins.

Actually, he lives down in Florida and I’m from New York, so it was just a couple of years ago that I first got the chance to meet him in person. That was cool. Ever since then, we’ve been keeping in touch.
