Hall of Fame weekend plans unveiled

Guy Huntingford was introduced as chairman of the 2011 Canadian Football Hall of Fame induction weekend at a press conference on Friday.

“I’m honoured to be working with the Calgary Stampeder Football Club and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum,” said Huntingford. “Football fans can look forward to a number of exciting events, including the induction ceremony on Sept. 16 and the Hall of Fame game on Sept. 17.”

Builders Don Matthews and Gino Fracas, along with players Danny McManus, Terry Vaughn, Joe Montford, Ken Lehmann and Chris Flynn, will be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, bringing the number of members to 251. The Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum is located in Hamilton, Ont.

“We’re going to work with the Stampeder Alumni Group to ensure this event is a major success,” said Lyle Bauer, president and COO of the Stampeders. “We invite everyone in Calgary and southern Alberta who loves Canadian football to join us during the celebration in mid-September.”

Stampeders alumni Herm Harrison, who played with the team from 1964-72, and Rocco Romano (1987, 1992-2000) took part in Friday’s press conference.

A number of events will be held between Sept. 14 and 18. Here are the highlights:

  • Sept. 14 – Welcome reception at Delta Bow Valley
  • Sept. 15 – Poker tournament at Grey Eagle Casino
  • Sept. 16 – Hall of Fame breakfast at Delta Bow Valley; inductees bust unveiling; 2011 Hall of Fame induction dinner at TELUS Convention Centre
