Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import defensive backs Marcus Jemison, Jay Leggin and Daren Stone as well as import quarterback Steven Gachette have signed contracts with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Jemison is a product of Grambling State University in Louisiana. He appeared in eight games with Grambling in 2009 and recorded 21 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss, and one interception. In 2008, Jemison was a redshirt freshman at Auburn.
Leggin played two seasons at Eastern Washington University, seeing action as both a receiver and defensive back. In 2009, Leggin made 11 tackles and returned 11 kickoffs for 178 yards. Leggin attended Sacramento City College in 2006 and helped the Panthers win the 2006 Mid-Empire Conference title.
Stone spent four seasons with the University of Maine Black Bears and has NFL experience with Atlanta, Baltimore and Dallas. His career college totals include 173 tackles, including 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and 10 interceptions. Stone earned All-Atlantic 10 third-team honours as a junior in 2005 after leading the conference with five interceptions.
Gachette spent four seasons with the Division II Southwest Baptist University Bearcats. On three occasions, he was named the conference player of the year. Gachette holds a number of school records, including most touchdown passes (six), passing yards (459) and pass attempts (68) in one game.
