Stamps sign defensive linemen

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that three defensive linemen — non-import Akwasi Antwi and imports Maxwell Onyegbule and Sam Scott — have signed contracts with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Antwi is getting set for his first CFL training camp after have been taken by the Stampeders in the fourth round (26th overall) of the 2011 CFL Canadian Draft. Antwi played three seasons for the Mount Allison Mounties. In 2010, he led the team with 47 tackles and had four sacks and two forced fumbles and was selected to play in the 2011 East-West Bowl.

Onyegbule spent four seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks from 2006-09. During his senior season, Onyegbule recorded 37 tackles, six sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Scott played at West Chester University, a Division II school in Pennsylvania. He earned All-America honourable mention from D2Football.com in 2009 – his senior season – after recording 62 tackles, two forced fumbles, two kick blocks, an interception and a team-leading 7.5 sacks.
