Stamps acquire McNeal, Davis from Argos

The Calgary Stampeders have acquired import receiver Reggie McNeal and non-import defensive tackle Adrian Davis from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for import receiver P.K. Sam and non-import defensive lineman Miguel Robede.McNealTop_110519.jpg

The teams also traded one player off each of their negotiation lists.

“I look forward to seeing Reggie and Adrian compete at training camp,” said John Hufnagel, head coach and general manager of the Stampeders. “The receiver and defensive line positions will be extremely deep at camp, so they will face the same competition that P.K. and Miguel would have faced. But we’re pleased to add them to the mix.”

McNeal is about to enter his fourth season in the CFL. He spent the last three years with the Argos, collecting 80 receptions for 1,090 yards and five touchdowns in that time. McNeal played four seasons (2002-05) with the Texas A&M Aggies, the majority of time as a quarterback. McNeal set two Texas A&M records that season as his 2,791 passing yards and 718 rushing yards are the best totals by a QB in school history.

“McNeal is a very unique athlete who has been productive in the CFL and we’re going to give him an opportunity to show us what he can do as a quarterback,” said Hufnagel. “He was an extremely productive quarterback at Texas A&M and we want to see all of the value he could possibly bring to the football club.”

Davis has recorded six tackles and two sacks during the past three seasons with the Argos. Davis_action110519.jpgDavis started five games in 2007 with Concordia University. He also spent some time with Marshall University in West Virginia and Vanier College in Montreal. Davis was taken in the fourth round (33rd overall) of the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft by the Montreal Alouettes.

“With Adrian,” said Hufnagel, “we’re getting a veteran CFL player who has been productive and who was coached by Chris Jones in Montreal when he first entered the league.”

Robede spent five seasons with the Stamps, recording 42 tackles and seven sacks in that time. Calgary selected Robede first overall in the 2005 CFL Canadian Draft. He is a product of the University of Laval.

“We’re very appreciative of Miguel’s contributions over the years and he has been a solid pro with the Stampeders,” said Hufnagel. “Toronto has shown interest in Miguel for some time and today we made the move.”

Sam had 13 catches for 129 yards in an injury-shortened 2010 season for the Stamps. Hespent his first two CFL seasons with Toronto before being acquired by Calgary in a Feb. 17, 2009, trade.

“With the return to health of Ken-Yon Rambo and emergence of Landan Talley, we were happy with our receiving corps at the end of last season,” said Hufnagel. “We’re also very happy with our new recruits at the receiver position, so we felt comfortable making this  deal and parting ways with P.K.”
