Stamps release Labinjo

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel announced today that non-import defensive lineman Mike Labinjo has been released.

The Stampeders drafted Labinjo in the third round (25th overall) of the 2003 CFL Canadian Draft. He signed with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles in April 2004 and played eight games with the team. Labinjo played two games for Indianapolis during the 2005 NFL season and had stints with Miami and Indianapolis in 2007 before signing with Calgary.

In 44 games over four seasons in Calgary, Labinjo recorded 61 tackles, seven special-teams tackles, six sacks and nine tackles for loss. In the 2008 Grey Cup, Labinjo had a sack and three knockdowns to help the Stamps win the championship. Labinjo played in 13 games during an injury-plagued season with the Stamps in 2010.
