The Calgary Stampeders were busy during Sunday’s CFL Canadian Draft, selecting six players and trading for one more. The Stamps used their first pick on WR Anthony Parker (first round, third overall) from the University of Calgary.
“We were pleased to be able to trade up and acquire Anthony with the third pick,” said John Hufnagel, head coach and GM of the Stampeders. “Anthony is a great talent and we’re thrilled that he will be joining our organization. Although it was close, Anthony was our top choice at the receiver position.”
The Stampeders acquired the third pick from the BC Lions in a Sunday trade. Calgary also received the 26th and 34th picks. In return, the Lions received the sixth, 11th and 37th overall selections in this year’s draft.
The Stampeders then selected DL Junior Turner (Bishop’s University) at No. 9.
“We were happy that Junior was still available at No. 9,” said Hufnagel. “We had Junior at the top of the list for defensive linemen.”
Calgary traded its 14th-overall selection to Edmonton for the playing rights to DL Brian Bulcke. The Eskimos originally selected Bulcke with the sixth overall pick of the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft.
Calgary’s final four selections were: DL Akwasi Antwi (Mount Allison) at No. 26, QB Brad Sinopoli (Ottawa) at No. 29, RB Matt Walter (University of Calgary) at No. 34, and TE Jared Manchulenko (Concordia) at No. 45.
