Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import receiver Jabari Arthur has signed a contract extension with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“We were very pleased to see Jabari have a healthy and productive season in 2010,” said Hufnagel. “He plays an important role in our offence and on special teams, and we look forward to him taking another step forward in 2011.”

Arthur rejoined the Stampeders organization in 2010 and played in 14 regular-season games, making 11 catches for 97 yards. The six-foot-four, 219-pound receiver also played on special teams and contributed a pair of tackles. Arthur was in uniform for the 2010 West final and had one catch for 18 yards.

The 28-year-old Montreal native was originally selected by Calgary in the first round of the 2007 Canadian draft and he was a member of the Stamps’ 2008 Grey Cup-winning team. He was traded to Winnipeg in 2009 as part of the deal that brought Romby Bryant and Arjei Franklin to Calgary and re-signed with the Stampeders on July 19, 2010.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity to play here in Calgary again,” said Arthur. “I enjoy playing for this team, I love the city and I look forward to a great season and a great future with Calgary.”

Arthur was a standout at the University of Akron and still holds a number of the school’s receiving records including most career catches (184) and most career yards (2,655).
