Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import offensive lineman Steve Myddelton has signed a contract extension with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Steve had a tremendous season for us last year and we are very happy to sign him to this extension,” said Hufnagel. “He has made great progress since we drafted him in 2009 and we look forward to his continued development in the coming years.”
Myddelton played in all 18 regular-season games in 2010 as well as the West final. He showed great versatility, making six starts at right guard and seven starts, including the West final, at left guard. Myddelton was part of an offensive line that helped the Stampeders be the league’s most proficient running attack and provided excellent protection for the CFL’s second-ranked passing offence. The Stamps led the league in rushing yards per game (145.4), rushing first downs (162) and allowed the second-fewest sacks (30).
“I’m thrilled to extend with the team,” said Myddelton. “We have some of the best coaches in the league and I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to continue learning and working with them going forward. With the season I was able to have last year, I’m really looking forward to getting back at it and continuing to progress and get better.”
Myddelton, a 24-year-old product of Barrie, Ont., was a fourth-round choice of the Stampeders in 2009 and spent the majority of the 2009 campaign on the practice roster. He was a two-time conference all-star at St. Francis Xavier University.
