Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that free-agent import defensive back Geoff Tisdale has signed a contract with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“I’m excited to add Geoff to our team,” said Hufnagel. “He’s a young, fast playmaker who has 11 interceptions and has demonstrated excellent man-to-man coverage skills over his three seasons in the Canadian Football League.”
Tisdale played in 18 regular-season games with Hamilton last season and led the Tiger-Cats in both interceptions with four and in pass knockdowns with eight. He also led the team’s defensive backs with 58 tackles and recovered a fumble. The six-foot-one, 185-pounder also added an interception, two tackles and a special-teams tackle in the East Division semi-final against Toronto.
“I’m excited about this opportunity to join the Stampeders,” said Tisdale. “From what I’ve heard, this is a great organization and a great city to live in and I’m looking forward to having an opportunity to reach my goals and compete for a Grey Cup here in Calgary.”
In three seasons with Hamilton, Tisdale amassed 128 defensive tackles, including three tackles for loss, 11 interceptions, 24 pass knockdowns and two fumble recoveries. The 24-year old played in 46 regular-season games and two playoff contests with the Ticats.
