Stamps sign Rambo to extension

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import receiver Ken-Yon Rambo has signed a contract extension with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Ken-Yon was faced with an adverse injury, made a commitment to be back on the field for us, and played very well last season,” said Hufnagel. “He is an integral part of our offence and we look forward to having his play-making ability in the fold for the foreseeable future.”RamboI_110210.jpg

Rambo started in the final 14 regular-season games and the West Division final with Calgary last season after missing the first four contests of the campaign recovering from knee surgery. He caught 72 passes for 1,172 yards and eight touchdowns.

Rambo surpassed the 100-yard plateau on six occasions — the most of any receiver in the Canadian Football League — and his 100-yard pass reception from Henry Burris on Oct. 1 was the longest pass play in the CFL last season. Rambo and teammates Nik Lewis and Romby Bryant became the first trio of Stamps pass-catchers since 2000 to each surpass 1,000 yards in the same season.

“Calgary is the only place I want to be and I’m glad we were able to get this done,” said Rambo. “The Stamps are a great organization to play for, we’ve got a great group here and I’m looking forward to getting back out on the field in a few months. We didn’t finish where we wanted to the past two seasons and I think everyone is looking forward to working hard to get back to that big game.”

With his efforts in 2010, Rambo moved into ninth all-time in Stampeders history for receptions (355) and receiving yards (5,300) and in to a 10th-place tie for touchdowns (34). He joined Calgary as a free agent in 2005 and has played in 86 regular-season contests and six playoff games.
