The key words for the contenders in the first semifinal battle in the Play of the Year Showdown are “long distance.”
On one hand, you have receiver Ken-Yon Rambo, who caught a pass from Henry Burris and rambled 100 yards for a touchdown against the Montreal Alouettes on Oct. 1 at McMahon Stadium.
It was the longest reception of Rambo’s illustrious career and the longest offensive play in the entire Canadian Football League during the 2010 season.
Then you have the other Semifinal 1 contender, a 17-yard run by Joffrey Reynolds at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium on Sept. 10.
That’s a fine run by any standard but the real long-distance significance to that particular play is that it allowed the standout running back to surpass Kelvin Anderson’s record of 8,292 yards — that’s almost five miles — in the Stampeders record book.
