Play of the Year Showdown: Group A

It’s time to determine what play from the Stampeders’ 2010 season was the year’s best highlight and it’s you, the fans, who will make the call.

The field has been narrowed down to 16 plays, which have been divided into four groups. The top plays as voted by the fans on Stampeders.com home-page poll will advance to the semifinal round and the competition culminates with a one-week one-on-one showdown in the final starting Feb. 8.

The selection process begins today with the Group A candidates, which include:

  • A remarkable display of toughness and courage by receiver Arjei Franklin, who absorbs a hit to make a touchdown catch against the Edmonton Eskimos
  • A nifty bit of trickery by the punt team that includes some nice acting by Burke Dales and a big gain by Jon Cornish
  • A spectacular catch-and-run connection between Henry Burris and Ken-Yon Rambo that results in a 100-yard score against the Montreal Alouettes
  • A defensive one-two defensive punch involving Charleston Hughes and Keon Raymond and a major against the BC Lions
