Raymond signs new contract

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import linebacker Keon Raymond has re-signed with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“Keon was a very productive member of our defence last season at outside linebacker,” said Hufnagel. “He is a versatile athlete who has played several positions for our club over the past three seasons and we’re glad to have him back for 2011.”  IRaymond_101213.jpg

Raymond started at outside linebacker in each of Calgary’s 18 regular-season games and the Western Final in 2010. He recorded 49 tackles, including two for loss, and had four interceptions, one off the team lead. The 28-year-old St. Louis, Mo., native forced one fumble and recovered two others — including one he returned 47 yards for a touchdown on Oct. 22 against BC. Raymond also added nine pass knockdowns, one quarterback sack and six special-teams tackles.

“I’m definitely glad to be back with the Stampeders. This is a great organization to play for,” said Raymond. “Our coaches have done an excellent job and we have a very strong core group of guys here. When you have such great individuals, it’s really fun to come to work and I want to help this team get over the hump and reach our ultimate goal next season. Also, I really enjoy the Stamps’ commitment in the community. My family lives here, it’s a great place to live and I am honoured to assist and give back whenever possible.”

A product of Middle Tennessee State, Raymond joined the Stamps in 2008. He has suited up for 39 regular-season games and three playoff tilts with Calgary.
