The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce that Ben Archibald has been named the Canadian Football League’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman for the 2010 season. The award was announced Thursday evening during the Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards show at the Edmonton Winspear Centre.
This is Archibald’s first time winning the CFL’s top offensive lineman award after being the runner-up for the honour in 2009. He beat out Marwan Hage of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in this year’s voting among members of the Football Reporters of Canadan and CFL head coaches.
A stalwart on the offensive line, Archibald started all 18 regular-season games and the Western Final for Calgary this season. He was a key component on an offensive line that paved the way for the league’s top most proficient running game and provided excellent protection at the all-important left tackle position for the league’s second-ranked passing attack. The Stamps led the league in rushing yards (2,618), rushing first downs (162) and allowed the second-fewest sacks (30).
Archibald, a three-year CFL veteran, has started 36 consecutive games at tackles for Calgary. He was a West Division all-star and CFL all-star in each of the past two seasons.
This is just the second time a Stamps player has been named the CFL’s most outstanding offensive lineman as Fred Childress won the award in 1998.
