The Calgary Stampeders are proud to announce that eight members of the team are 2010 Canadian Football League All-Stars. The players are quarterback Henry Burris, receiver Nik Lewis, offensive linemen Ben Archibald and Dimitri Tsoumpas, linebacker Juwan Simpson, cornerbacks Dwight Anderson and Brandon Browner and punter Burke Dales.

Burris, the West Division’s nominee for most outstanding player, led a Calgary offence that ranked first among all CFL clubs in several offensive categories including average points scored per game (34.8) and average offence per game (431.6). He completed a career-high 66.2 per cent of his passes (370 of 559) for 4,945 yards and threw for a league-leading 38 majors (he threw a touchdown on a league-best 6.8 per cent of attempts) and posted a 101.9 efficiency rating. He also rushed 70 times for 491 yards (7.0 per carry) and three majors. This is the 12-year veteran’s first CFL all-star nomination.

Lewis, also a first-time CFL all-star, led the Stamps with 90 receptions, a career high, and 1,262 receiving yards. It was his team-record seventh consecutive 1,000-yard season and his club record for consecutive games played with a reception was extended to 122. Lewis added nine touchdowns receptions.

Archibald, the West’s most outstanding lineman nominee, is being honoured as a CFL all-star for the second time in his CFL career (was a CFL all-star in 2009) while Tsoumpas receives the nod for the first time. The linemen led an offensive line that paved the way for the league’s most proficient running game and provided excellent protection for the league’s second-ranked passing attack. The Stamps led the league in rushing yards per game (145.4), rushing first downs (162) and allowed the second-fewest sacks (30).

Simpson is the West Division’s most outstanding defensive player nominee and is a CFL all-star for the first time. He started all but one game (he missed one contest with an injury) this season for the league’s stingiest defensive unit, which surrendered an average of 336.0 yards per game. Simpson posted career highs with 71 tackles (led the team), seven sacks (tied for the team lead), 17 special-teams tackles and one interception. He also added four knockdowns, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and two tackles for loss.

Anderson shared the team lead with five interceptions (a career high) and led the squad with two picks returned for scores. It marks the second straight year that Anderson and teammate Brandon Browner have led the team in interceptions. Anderson established a Stampeders single-season record with 246 interception-return yards to lead the CFL. He added 45 tackles, forced two fumbles and recovered one. He is a CFL all-star for the first time in his four-year CFL career.

Browner earns his third consecutive nod as a CFL all-star corner. He tied for the club lead with five interceptions, a career high. He notched 51 tackles, forced one fumble and blocked a field goal. With nine pass knockdowns, Browner earned at least a share of the team lead in that category for the second season.

Dales receives his first CFL all-star nomination. He punted 118 times for 5,371 yards and led all CFL punters with a 45.5-yard per punt average. He ranked third in the league with a 35.5-yard net average and has posted seven games with a net average above 40.0 yards per kick.

All-Stars are selected by a combination of fan balloting, CFL head coaches and Football Reporters of Canada.
