The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce that quarterback Henry Burris has been named the Canadian Football League’s offensive player of the month for October.
During the period, which included the final regular-season weekend of action from Nov. 5-7, Burris appeared in six games and completed 103 of 154 pass attempts (a 66.9 per cent completion rate) for 1,605 yards, 14 touchdowns and only four interceptions. His quarterback rating for the six games was an impressive 120.7.
“I’m very pleased to see Henry receive this recognition from the CFL,” said Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. “His performance and leadership down the stretch are just another indication of why he is Calgary’s nominee for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award.”
Burris’ stellar month included a 412-yard, four-touchdown performance in an Oct. 1 first win over the defending-Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes and a 73.1-per cent completion rate in an Oct. 17 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a result that was instrumental in the Stamps’ ability to clinch a second West Division title in three years.
The 12-year veteran out of Temple also had 21 carries for 169 yards during the period.
Burris led the CFL with 38 touchdown passes in 2010 and was also tops among starters with an average of 8.8 yards per pass attempt.
It’s the fourth time in Burris’ career he has been named the CFL’s offensive player of the month. The Spiro, Okla., product is the first Stampeder to receiver player-of-the-month recognition since Jeremaine Copeland was voted the league’s top offensive player in September of 2009.
