The Calgary Stampeders are pleased to announce that linebacker Keon Raymond has been named the Canadian Football League’s defensive player of the week for Week 19.

“I’m pleased Keon received this well deserved honour from the CFL,” said Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel. “As always with these awards, I think it’s a product of a great team effort and it’s really a honour for our entire defence.”

Raymond, a third-year player out of Middle Tennessee State, recorded seven tackles in the Stampeders’ 35-32 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Nov. 5. He also registered a sack and his first career forced fumble.

Raymond finished the regular season with 49 defensive tackles, six special-teams tackles, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one sack and one forced fumble as he helped the Stampeders become the West Division’s stingiest team and to post a league-best 13-5 record.

This marks the eighth time a Stampeders player has been recognized in the CFL’s weekly awards in 2010.

Other Calgary winners were Jon Cornish, who was named top Canadian in Week 4 and Week 9, Henry Burris, who was named top offensive player in Weeks 11 and 14, Romby Bryant, who was top offensive player in Week 4, Ken-Yon Rambo, who received the offensive-player-of the-week nod in Week 9, and Brandon Smith, who earned defensive player honours for Week 10.
