Johnson: Just like any other game

Robert Henderson, a former college teammate from Southern Miss, had been with us on the practice roster for the past few weeks and it was good. It made it seem like it’s a small world.

We haven’t played ball together since ’06 and now it’s 2010, so it was a real coincidence for us to be together again. I enjoyed it. We brought up a lot of old college times and we had fun with it.Johnson_101104.jpg

A lot has happened since college. I’ve been on three or four different teams. Professional football and college football are two totally different things. This is a job, so you have to put in way more mental time, more physical time. But I still feel like I’m a young guy and that I have a lot of years left in me.

This week’s game in Winnipeg may not mean much as far as the standings go, but it’s still our job. The mindset that we have on this team is good. We all have the mindset that this is the next game and we have to play it like any other game. We have to play to win and we have to execute our assignments. We need to be crisp and build some momentum heading into the playoffs and the Western Final.

The plan is to get to the Grey Cup and this game is the next step we have to make.

Our defensive line has been doing great this year and I have to give credit to Jonesie — defensive coordinator Chris Jones — the mastermind. With these players and this system, it doesn’t matter who you put out there and they’re going to be productive. Jonesie doesn’t put the emphasis on one guy — we’re all athletes and we all make plays and we all rally to the play. It’s a fun system to play.
