McCune: Having fun, making plays

Being from Alabama, I’m still getting used to the weather at this time of the year.

I’ve experienced some cold weather during my football career with some of the places I’ve played, but I never can get used to it.

As far as football goes, it’s a long season and of course you’re going to have little bumps and bruises at this stage of the year but once the season is over, you have plenty of time to heal up so you don’t worry about those bumps and bruises. My body is holding up OK. I’m still running around and making plays.McCune_101027.jpg

A couple of weeks ago, I got a chance to play my natural position of linebacker and man, it was fun. From back there, you can see everything and like I said, it was fun. But then Juwan came back from his injury, so I had the give the position back to him.

Playing on the D-line for most of this season, I didn’t know what to expect from myself. When Coach Jones came to me and told me he wanted me to play some defensive end, I was 50-50 about it because I had never done it. I had never pass-rushed play after play like you do from that position.

But talking to Cornell Brown, the D-line coach, they saw an aspect in me that I could play fast and play physical. That’s what he kept preaching to me and so that’s what I did. It’s been working out pretty well.

Our D-line coach keeps a good rotation going so that everybody gets a chance to play. When I’m not in there, he tells some things I can do to get better. Then he just lets us play. It’s been good.

We’ve got two games left in the regular season before the playoffs begin and we want to win these last two games and finish the season on a good note. Then we’ll rest up and get ready for the playoffs.
