We’re coming off a big victory and one that was very enjoyable because we were able to run the ball.
As an offensive lineman, there’s nothing you like better when you’re out there on the field and the plays keep on coming in and it’s “run” and it’s “run” and it’s “run.” It tires out the defence, you get to do the hitting instead of getting hit . . . it’s awesome.
Pass protection is OK — you’ve got to do it — but as far as having goes on the O-line? Run blocking is where it’s at.
Unfortunately, we had to make some changes during the game because of Edwin Harrison’s injury, but that moving around is something we’ve been good at all year in practice. When I was the sixth offensive lineman, I was moving around and playing different positions, so I was sort of ready for it when they moved me from guard to tackle.
Maybe’s not 100 per cent ready, but it’s certainly a different level of comfort when you’re out there at tackle. You have a little more space to work with and you’re on a bit of an island, but after a couple of plays, I settled down and things were going well. It helps when the team’s playing well, too.
We want to keep that going tonight with BC coming in. The Lions’ defence does a lot of things — they switch up looks, they’re really fast and the play hard up front. It’s going to be a challenging game for us, especially with the short week.
Obviously, we know we can clinch first place with a win and it’s something we’re thinking about. They always say the next game is the biggest one and it’s certainly the case for this one because clinching the home game in the West Final is absolutely huge.
