Cote: Winning is most important

I’ve been hearing that I’ve been getting some compliments on TSN and from the fan message-boards for my blocking during last week’s game against Saskatchewan.

It’s always fun to get a little bit of attention but I’m not the type of guy who needs it. I take pride in doing my job and, for sure, I appreciate it when people notice I’m doing it well (and hopefully they ignore it if I stub my toe a little bit!) But it does feel good to get a little love now and then.Cote_101021.jpg

But no personal praise is going to top the thrill of winning in Regina. My mom, my dad, my sister and my girlfriend drove out to the game and it was awesome having them there. It was a huge win for us and that, to me, is the real payoff.

Of course, the TV also showed me getting chewed out by Huff after I messed up and forced us into a delay of game penalty. But I earned the tongue-lashing. I guess I needed to turn my hearing aid up in the huddle because I missed an important aspect of the call. It cost us five years, which could have been a big, big mistake, but luckily big man Corey Mace got the ball right back for us, so all’s well that ends well, I guess.

When we can run like we did and get a win that’s as big as that one, that’s what really matters.

There were obviously some very big implications in that game and we know we still have three games left, but that game in Regina was a huge, huge win for us. It’s no secret that the result put us in exactly the place we wanted to be and now we just have take care of business from here on out.

Hopefully we can get these two guys in the backfield running the rock like they have been. Keep that up and I think we’re going to be a really tough team to beat.
