Being unsuccessful early on when they went up 14-0, it is kinda tough. But you know, guys stepped up to the plate. We knew there’s no such thing as a 14-point play so we just needed to get points on the board.
After that, we were able to keep on plugging at them. A few field goals, a few underneath routes opened up and we looked like we were about to score.
We were able to stick to our game plan. They have a bend-but-don’t-break style of defence where they force you to drive the field, to make you impatient and cause turnovers. Hank took the underneath routes and we were able to more the chains.
The running game worked well, Cornish and me were able to see lanes and at the end of the game we had a few long drives and started to wear on them by the end.
We got a lot of plays underneath. It was planned to have me those underneath routes. The defence was dropping back in deeper zones and Dave Dickenson was telling me to get out into routes, which is great because I got the ball more. But they drop off in deeper zones to try and force interceptions but Hank saw it and we were able to move the chains.
Feels great to hit 100 again. Mostly, I’m just glad to get the work. I like being busy. The O-line is playing great, they go to bat for me. So when we do decide to run, they do their job. Jon and I had a great game today and a great season so far thanks to them.
With this win, we just wanted to get more balance. We wanted to get back to when our offence is best and that’s by being balanced. It was more important for us mentally.
Winning this game in Saskatchewan is huge. The reason we work so hard in the off-season. To play a big part in it is the kind of stuff you dream of.
We play BC at home on Friday, a big game against a West opponent. Just because we won tonight doesn’t mean it’s over with. We need one more win to secure that bye so here’s hoping we get it.
