Mace: We stuck together

Obviously, that’s not the start we wanted today. What we tried to tell ourselves though was that there was plenty of time left to bounce back.

It was just a matter of sticking together and turning things around and we were able to do that. Even being down 14-0, the attitude on the sideline was not bad at all. We were still positive and confident we could come back.Mace_101017.jpg

I know a big part of the game plan when you come to Regina is taking the crowd out of the game early and obviously, we weren’t able to do that. But it’s even more important to take the crowd out of the game late, which we did, and I’ll take that any day.

There were a lot of factors in turning the game around and one of the biggest was the way the offence came out and played at the start of the second half. The way they moved the ball and milked that clock was just outstanding. They did an awesome job.

Of course, that scoop-and-score was big, too. I’ve been trying to remember the last time I scored a touchdown and I think it was in junior college. On that one, I just fell on the ball in the end-zone, but I think that counts.

On this one, we knew that Durant has certain lanes he likes to throw the ball to and sometimes he throws the ball low to get it in there, so I was trying to get up in the air for a knockdown. Milt was able to get to him before he could throw, the ball came out and took a nice bounce to get into my arms.

From there, it was just a matter of trying to reach the end-zone. I had some teammates with me running down there and I just wanted to make sure nobody would catch up from behind so I moved around a little bit just to make sure I’d get there.

The nice thing is that we were nice and fresh on defence because of how our offence was controlling the ball and the clock in the third quarter. If the defence had been on the field a lot in the third quarter, I don’t think I could have made it all the way to the end-zone!

As for my celebration, well, that was from the Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America. You know, that scene with Sexual Chocolate performing on stage? Anybody who has seen that movie will know what I’m talking about.

Bottom line is it was fun to score and it was even more fun to win the game.
