Insider: A milestone afternoon

It was a milestone day for the Calgary Stampeders as they defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 34-26 at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium.

For starters, Joffrey Reynolds turned in his 31st career 100-yard game to improve his franchise record. By scoring two touchdowns on Sunday, Reynolds now has 57 career majors and is tied with Travis Moore for fifth place all-time in Stampeders history.

He also surpassed the 1,000-yard mark on the season for a sixth consecutive year. Only Kelvin Anderson, who had seven 1,000-yard seasons, has reached four digits more often in a Calgary uniform.

Speaking of 1,000-yard campaigns, slotback Nik Lewis got to that plateau in receiving yards for a seventh straight year. No other Stamps receiver has done it more than four consecutive times and only Allen Pitts (nine) has more overall 1,000-yard seasons.

Quarterback Henry Burris surpassed the 4,000-yard mark in passing for a seventh consecutive season and for the eighth time overall in the CFL.

There were also some first on Sunday, including Corey Mace’s first professional touchdown — the defensive lineman rumbled 60 yards after recovering a fumble — and the first sack in a Calgary uniform for Siddeeq Shabazz, who was making his Stampeders debut.

Khari Long, also playing for Calgary for the first time, picked up his first tackle for the Red and White.

The most important achievement of all on Sunday is represented by the No. 1 — the Stamps’ magic number. One more Calgary win or one more Saskatchewan loss will allow the Stampeders to clinch the West Division crown and a first-round bye.
