We’re in the second part of the Reebok Reediscover. This part of the challenge is about your defining moment as a player and for me, that was the final game of the 2008 season.
Up until that point, nobody knew really about me unless they paid attention to special teams, which is where I was mostly playing at the time. But I got a chance to carry the ball in that game against the BC Lions and I scored on a 20-yard touchdown.
It was a huge moment for me because it was my first touchdown and it was against my hometown team.
As for the Reebok competition, it’s been a fun little journey. Originally, I thought it was pretty stressful but with the different sources of people supporting me with their votes, it’s turned out to be pretty fun for me.
I was able to win the first part of the competition and right now I’m going up against Jeremy O’Day of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the second round of the second part. If things go like they did in the first part, I could be facing off against Darian Durant in the final again.
Because of the two parts of the competition and people can vote every day, you have to remind people to stay with it and keep coming back to vote. I want them to know how much it means to me and the Calgary Stampeders to defeat a Saskatchewan Roughrider. It’s something anybody from Calgary can appreciate.
The support has been overwhelming and I thank everyone for that. We’ve all heard about videos going viral, well for me it’s nice to go viral, even on a very small scale.
Speaking of which, I was hearing from a lot of people about TSN showing video clips of Gale Sayers and John Riggings during their last telecast because they were running backs at Kansas, just like I was. I had to see that for myself, and I did.
It was pretty cool. I had a few nice little plays during the game and the TSN commentators started talking about me. It’s nice to be talked about in the same breath with those two all-time football greats. Gale Sayers — those words are spoken with reverence. I might not be at that level down there but it would be nice some day to be appreciated along those lines here.
