Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that import linebacker Siddeeq Shabazz, import defensive lineman Khari Long and import running back Chad Kackert have signed practice-roster agreements with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Shabazz spent the 2009 season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers following two seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos. He dressed in 16 games last season and recorded 72 tackles, four interceptions including two returned for touchdowns, 14 special-teams tackles, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Shabazz played with the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders after being selected by Oakland in the seventh round (246th overall) of the 2003 National Football League draft.
Long played with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2009. He dressed in 13 regular-season games and one playoff contest. He led the Ticats with 10 sacks and made 34 tackles, including two tackles for loss, and forced one fumble. He was chosen in the sixth round (199th overall) by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2005 NFL draft. He played one game for the Chiefs in 2005. He has also spent time on the practice roster of the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills.
Kackert joins the Stamps following a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this year. He played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire and excelled as both a running back and a returner. In 2009, he led the Wildcats with 780 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns to go with a 20.4-yard average on 25 kickoff returns. For his career, he had 462 carries for 2,421 yards and 25 touchdowns as well as 59 catches for 596 yards and six majors.
