Nik Lewis, Ken-Yon Rambo and Romby Bryant are bidding for a feat that hasn’t been accomplished by the Stampeders in a decade.
All three players have cracked the 800-yard mark in receiving through Week 14 and each is on pace to reach 1,000 for the season. The most recent trio of Stampeders to hit 1,000 receiving yards in the same season consisted of Travis Moore (1,431), Marc Boerigter (1,092) and Allen Pitts (1,045), who turned the hat trick in 2000.
The Stampeders’ dynamic offences of the 1990s produced triple 1,000-yard receivers no fewer than five times, with the 1992 combination of Pitts, David Sapunjis and Carl Bland being the first in Stampeders history to accomplish the feat.
1992: Pitts, Sapunjis, Bland
1993: Sapunjis, Will Moore, Derrick Crawford
1995: Sapunjis, Pitts, Terry Vaughn
1996: Sapunjis, Pitts, Vaughn
1998: Pitts, Vaughn, Vince Danielsen
2000: Travis Moore, Pitts, Boerigter
The exploits of the current group of receivers is made all the more remarkable by the fact that rehab from a 2009 injury forced Rambo to miss the first four games of the season and that a knee problem Lewis forced to sit out a Sept. 25 game against BC.
Here are the numbers for the 2010 group:
