With the weather cooling off and the playoff races heating up, it’s time to paint Calgary red as the Stampeders and their fans prepare for Red October.
The month-long celebration encourages Stamps fans to show their spirit and the team colours, not only at the stadium but everywhere in Calgary and environs.
“Throughout the month, we are encouraging our fans to make this a Red October by wearing red and showing their support for the Calgary Stampeders,” said Stampeders president/COO Lyle Bauer. “With three home dates in October, this is a pivotal part of the campaign for us and we are encouraging fans to wear their Stamps gear and red attire to work, at home or at school to show their support for the Red and White.”
The West Division-leading Stampeders have five key matchups in October, including three Friday night home dates at McMahon. The schedule kicks off Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. with a contest between the two current division leaders and the two most recent Grey Cup winners — 2008 champions Calgary and current Grey Cup-holders Montreal.
The BC Lions will be in town for a key divisional matchup on Oct. 22 while the Hamilton Tiger-Cats provide the opposition at McMahon on Oct. 29.
The schedule also features road dates in Montreal and Regina as the Stamps try to secure first place and home-field advantage for the West Final. The Stampeders are counting on the enthusiastic support of their fans in October to reach their goals in November.
“The atmosphere has been electric at McMahon all season,” said Bauer, “and we’re hoping that Red October will resonate throughout the community and lead to fans packing Our House — the house that Stamps fan built —and make it one of he toughest places for opposition to play as we make our run to the playoffs.”
Whether it means putting on your favourite Stamps jersey for work or school or applying face paint for a game-day trek to McMahon, fans are encouraged to make October a red-letter month.
