Raymond: Baby girl is a blessing

I couldn’t be happier right now. God has blessed me with a beautiful little girl and I’m excited.

My wife is pretty excited about the fact that it’s a girl because our first three children were all boys. She’s got a little bit of reinforcement now — she’s not the only female in the house anymore.

And my teammates have been great about this. They see my boys coming around the locker-room and they were hoping and praying that we would have a girl, too. It’s so exciting that my teammates are happy for me like that.Raymond_100930.jpg

The boys are excited, too. They’re fighting to hold the baby and they want to teach her everything right now. I think we would have had some trouble if we had had another boy because they wouldn’t have wanted to teach him nothing. But it’s a girl, so they’re excited.

And of course, as they get older, they’ll be there to protect her so that’ll make my job a lot easier. I think they’re going to be good big brothers.

There’s lots of minor football activity going on this week. On Friday, the Timbits will be playing at halftime of our game and Saturday, the Stampeders will be at Peewee Football Day at Shouldice Park.

That’s great because my son is playing minor football this year. He’s playing for the Calgary Cowboys and he’s doing a great job out there. He has an excellent coach in Tony Spoletini and they teach him so much out there.

I’m just so excited to be able to see him play. I just love watching football and when you can see kids who love to do it and they’re having fun out there, it just warms my heart.

There was a bit of a setback for a while because my son wasn’t able to wear No. 25 for his team like I do for the Stamps and he wound with 24 instead. Ah man, he cried so bad. I had to tell him that 24 was the number I wore in high school, so that cheered him up a little bit. I had to bring out my high school jersey and show him some pictures so he wouldn’t think I was just fibbing to him. Once he saw that, he was OK.

I started playing football when I was six. My dad got me started early and I’ve been playing ever since.

When I played, my dad was my coach and my mom was the cheerleading coach. It was like a family thing out there. And now it’s a family thing again — my boy loves to play and my younger two, they can’t wait to play.

One last thing, I just want to say that I’m praying for everyone and I want to let everybody know that prayer works. Just ask my little girl.
