We’re playing Montreal on Friday and we know the Alouettes are a well-oiled machine. They’ve got a system and they plug guys into that system.
They all work hard and put in their time — it’s kind of a mirror image of our team. We both get after each other, so it’s going to be a great battle. Those guys work hard and their hard work has paid off.
They’re the champs and until somebody wins the Grey Cup in November, they’re still the champs. If you can’t get up for it when the Grey Cup champs come to your house, then you don’t need to be playing. Of course we’re geeked.
We haven’t been playing at our best but record-wise, we’re still one of the best teams in the league if not the best team. We want to show that here. We want to come out and put together a complete game in all three facets of the game and if we do that, we’ll be successful. We’ll get some blows in and they’ll get some blows in and hopefully, we’ll be the last team standing.
As a defence, we’re going up against Anthony Calvillo. The problem with A.C. is that he’s so smart schematically — he knows where the ball’s going before it goes. If you look at the timing of his throws, he gets some of those off in less than a second so it’s hard to get a pass rush.
We’ve got to do a great job of disguising coverages and a great job of mixing it up. If we can’t get to him, then we’ve got to get our hands up and try to confuse him. But hopefully we can make him pat the ball a little bit and that will give us a chance to get there. He’s a consummate veteran but hopefully we can make some things happen and try to confuse him.
The nice thing about our defence is that we’re a sack by committee. The thing about it is that with our scheme and defence, we have 12 guys who can get after your butt. Any front seven that we have out there, we can get to the passer. We don’t really have a weak link.
If we had a Stevie Baggs, you could double him and single somebody else. On our team, if you single Juwan or if you leave someone like myself or Tom or Charleston or Labinjo one on one, we have a chance to make a play. We have a lot of weapons and it’s a blessing.
