Simpson: Glad to make plays

I’ve been playing pretty decent over the past few weeks but I really come out on Friday and make a statement.

I made some plays earlier in the year but I hadn’t made too many lately. We’ve still been winning, so that’s the most important thing, but I still was looking to make more plays.

Hey, everything fell in place Friday and the guys did a great job out there. The secondary did a great job allowing me the time to make a few plays on the quarterback and it was pretty exciting.

After Joffrey getting the rushing record, Hank throwing for more than 400 yards and Ken-Yon having more than 100 yards receiving, there was bound to be lots of talk about the offence after Friday’s game and that’s fine. I don’t have a problem with that, they’ve been talking about the defence long enough anyway.

The offence? Man, they deserve a lot of credit. I think we only played five or six players in the first quarter of Friday’s game. Anytime the offence can hold the ball that long, I don’t care if they get points or not, it’s good for the defence.

When they do that, we feel we owe them something and we want to go out play well. I think the guys responded real well. We faced some adversity on Friday and some people were skeptical about how we would deal with adversity, but we did a good job.

We didn’t do anything different this week that we haven’t done any other week or any other game. Friday was the next game and we prepared for them like it was our first time and then we just had to come out and play football. To do what the coaches tell us in all three phases of the game, and guys responded very well to that, even though I know a lot of guys were tired because of the short week.

As for Joffrey, the guys respect him so much and we were cheering for him. He comes to work, he’s not one of those guys who’s super-flashy, he’s just a hard worker. He brings his lunch pail to work every day and you can’t do anything but admire that. He’s a heck of a guy on and off the field, so I’m happy for him.
