Hughes: A great team effort

After missing the previous three games because of injury, I’ve got to work on my conditioning but overall, I’m good. I had a good game on Labour Day.

I was able to get to the quarterback a couple of times but I’m mad at myself because I wasn’t able to get there fast enough so that it would count as a sack but at least it counts as a hurry.Hughes_100908.jpg

Overall, it’s a hard thing to do to hold a team to five points and it was a team effort. I salute all my teammates for contributing and putting something out there. Everybody gave a good effort on the field. What more can I say? Like I mentioned, it was a true team effort.

Corey Mace played his first game for us and he’s a good player. He’s been playing well during practice and he did well in the game, forcing that safety. He definitely fulfilled what we were looking for.

It was great to see Brandon Smith get those two picks on Monday. He got the game ball and he deserved it. That touchdown he scored on the interception was a great play — an acrobatic catch and he made the play and scored the touchdown.

Now we play Edmonton again on Friday and we just have pick up where we left off. That’s all there is to it. We’ve just got to keep it going. Keep the train moving, keep playing hard, have everybody come together even more as a team. We can cut down on the penalties a lot but still go out and play hard.
