Cornish: The power of networking

It’s so exciting to have won the Reebok Reediscover competition!

It’s been a good year. With nobody expecting me, a second-string Canadian running back coming off a weak season, to win the Reebok Reeinsprire competition and, on top of that,  winning Canadian player of the week twice already.Cornish_100831.jpg

I thank all of my supporters because this is a big deal. I mean, no Stampeder is supposed to win this. Only a Winnipeg or Saskatchewan players are supposed to win these Reebok online competitions!

What this reveals is that you can have Internet fan bases outside of just your team and that’s what I leveraged. I hit up all my people from college, high school and around town. I took advantage of all the social networking sites I have available — Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr. After winning I definitely think they can be used to great effect.

Twitter is such a great way to interact with fans as well. I’m a person who has a great respect for the fans and their support so for me to be able to actively converse with them, its amazing!

To anybody who ever wants to ask me about anything, I’m on Twitter — @jonnycornish — I’ll gladly reply.

Facebook and Twitter are a great way to stay in touch with the people at Kansas where I went to school too. The fans? I still have as much love for them as I did when I was in college. I’ve managed to maintain an online presence down there; I think it’s ideal for me because I still have so many friends down there and to still being able to communicate with them all is something I’m happy about.

It’s become common knowledge at this point that I’m a bit of a computer geek and I know for certain Reebok never expected me to make it past the first round. Despite that, utilizing the support of my web of friends on Facebook and Twitter, I think I’ve proven at this point it is possible to defeat even the most powerful of Internet fan bases through networking.

My Internet buddies were telling me that they had their friends’ friends’ friends’ vote. To me, thats pretty much the coolest thing ever!
