You may have noticed some of the defensive linemen doing this thing after a big play that looks like one guy trying to chop down the other with an imaginary axe. It stems from Robede because he’s from Quebec up in the mountains up there and he does the maple thing with the wood.
But ’Binjo totally messed it up in that one game because Robede was chopping him down and ’Binjo was supposed to fall like a tree. But if ’Binjo falls, he may not get back up so I think that’s why he just stayed up. He was probably just tired because we’re always tired. I think it’s a prerequisite if you’re a D-lineman — you’ve got to be tired.
The guys were giving me some slack for not getting to that tipped ball in the end-zone the other night in BC. They were like, “You’re supposed to dive for those! You’re supposed to lay out!” But I’m like, “I was tired!”
Then they say, “But that’s the glory. That’s a touchdown!” but I come back with, “Nope, because I’ve got to right back and rush again.”
In hindsight, I guess I should have laid out for it. But everybody is an armchair quarterback.
I actually located the ball in the air but doing the quick math calculations in my head — force, distance and math — I came up on the losing end.
Now we’ve got a bit of a break between games and today is the big Calgary Stampeder Golf Tournament. I’ve been trying to tweak my game, get all the little nuances and working on my swing. I just played at another tournament and my team, out of 25 teams, finished dead last.
The thing about it was, they were using my ball so I knew we were doomed from the start. The best part of my golf game is my putting. The worst part of my golf game is off the tee.
Put it this way — if they don’t give me a bag with at least 25 balls today, I won’t be able to finish the round.
The ironic thing is I actually live on a golf course. My game is horrible, but I’m working on it here and there. The tough thing about golf is that you can’t blame anybody else. There’s only me and the ball.
But I’ll tell you what — I will be one of the freshest guys on the golf course. I may not play the part, but I’ll look fresh. I’ll look the part. I’m going to look like Tiger out there with the khakis and the hat and the collared polo. Man, I’m going to look like the GQ Man of the Month.
The great thing about the Stamps golf tournament is that it benefits amateur football. That’s especially important in Canada where the football is really starting to pick up and it’s starting to grow by leaps and bounds. It’s good to be part of something that helps that cause because it’s important to keep the sport going and keep it growing.
