Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import defensive lineman Corey Mace has signed a contract with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“I’m excited about Corey being here and to get him out on the football field,” said Hufnagel. “I believe he’ll be able to come in and compete at a high level during practice and I look forward to seeing what he can bring to the table.”
Mace was most recently with the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills. The six-foot-three, 287-pound defensive lineman dressed for five regular-season games with Buffalo, but spent nearly three seasons on the practice roster. Mace, a native of Port Moody, B.C., was originally drafted in the second round of the 2007 CFL Draft by Winnipeg. His rights were traded from Winnipeg to Hamilton and then to Toronto while he played in the NFL.
Prior to playing professionally, Mace played two seasons for the Wyoming Cowboys after transferring from Palomar Community College. In his senior season, Mace led all Cowboys defensive linemen with 51 tackles and earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honours. At Palomar in 2004, he was second-team All-Mission Conference after recording 51 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, and seven sacks.
