It was a good bye week, even though I didn’t do much. I just stayed at home and tried to get my legs rested.
Now it’s back to BC and going up against Geroy and his boys. You know, they bring a lot of different looks to the table. They do a lot of different formations and use different personnel. You always have to be intelligent and alert to see who’s in the game. And they’ve got dangerous backs, too, so there are a lot of different things in this game we have to pay attention to.
It looks like Casey Printers is back at quarterback for BC this week and he brings lots of versatility. It’s the same with Travis Lulay and Jarious Jackson — they all can run and they can all get out of the pocket. But we all know that with Casey, his No. 1 threat is his legs, so we’re going to try to keep him in the pocket and make him use his arm.
I played with Casey in Hamilton and he’s a good dude. He’s very competitive and he wants to do well. We have to try and make things as hard for him as possible.
We added another defensive back this week, a guy with NFL experience in Ahmad Carroll. We welcome that. We welcome anything that can add to the winning potential of the team. This isn’t a one-man show.
In the last game, I returned an interception 89 yards for a touchdown and I’ve got to say, that’s a long way. For a second, I forgot how big this field really was. Normally, the quarterback who’s chasing you will ease up but I looked back and Zabransky was actually running after me. I was like, “Is this guy really running?” But he was coming so I knew I had to turn it on.
By the time I got to the end-zone — because you know D.A.’s always got a little celebration or something — I just had to go down to one knee. I could see Rambo running down and I’m like, “Please don’t jump on me.”
But it was fun. That game was exciting. The defence was clicking and the D-line played great. Our D-line has really been playing great this year, along with our linebackers.
Those two groups playing well sure makes it easier for us in the secondary. When they get pressure on the quarterback, the DBs get a chance to make some plays on the ball. And when the secondary has good coverage, it gives the guys up front a chance to get sacks. So it all works hand in hand.
The way our defensive scheme works, it’s like a puzzle. Everybody has to be in a certain spot and if that piece is missing, it doesn’t work. Coach Jones puts you in a situation for a purpose and the guys believe in him. Our defensive coaching staff is great. It’s a big plus to have a coaching staff like that.
I have fun coming to work every day because I don’t have to worry about the coaches not having the details worked out. They always have it down to a “T.” The coaches are going to get it right and all we have to do is go out there and do what they tell us to do.
