As I mentioned the other day to reporters, this is as good as I’ve ever felt at this time of the season. I’ve been fortunate and blessed to not have any major nicks or muscle aches or anything like that. Yeah, the body just feels good.
But it only takes one play to turn that around, so I better not speak too soon! But I do feel really good.
I’ve been asked about whether I feel like I’m getting enough carries but you know, we go through this every year with the media and everyone. For others, it’s always about whether I’m getting the ball enough and my yardage being down and what not, but the bottom line is that this year — and in years past, also — we’ve always had successful teams. That’s really what it boils down to.
The yardage? It’ll be there. Obviously, we have a lot of weapons on the team and I think the good thing about this team is that nobody is getting frustrated or mad about not — quote-unquote — hitting this number in this game.
Don’t get me wrong. Any player wants to be recognized as the best at their position, even if having the most yards doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the best at your position, but hey, you just take it as it comes. When I’m getting my opportunities, I just want to make the most of them.
Obviously, Jon Cornish has come along this year and he had a big run in that last game. It’s been a good change-up to have him in the backfield with me. Having him in there allows me to watch from the sidelines and see what the defence is doing. And when Jon is in there, teams can’t afford to think that we’re definitely passing the ball.
If you look at our offence since the start of the season, we haven’t been running the ball as much as some people would like because we’ve had some two-and-outs and we weren’t really sustaining drives.
Obviously, when you go two-and-out, it cuts down on your play-calling. The more we can get consistent on moving the ball, we’ll be able to open up our playbook and call more run plays and screen plays and whatever other plays we want. That’s the thing we can still improve on.
