Sunday’s 56-15 victory was historic for the Calgary Stampeders, and not just because it was played on the 50th anniversary of the first-ever game at McMahon Stadium.
The Stamps set a couple of records in the all-time series against the Eskimos, the team that has traditionally given Calgary the most trouble over the years. The challenging part for the Stamps now is that they will have to face the revenge-minded Eskimos in the customary early-September home-and-home series.
As for Sunday’s game, the Red and White established a new high of points scored against the Eskimos, breaking the 46-year-old mark of 52 set in an Aug. 7, 1964, victory.
The Stamps also bettered the margin of victory in that 1964 meeting (37 points) by outscoring the Eskimos by 41 in this latest meeting.
