It feels good to have defence that can go out, make plays, score points and give us a short field. Offensively, we struggled at times and we looked good at times. That’s what makes me excited, that we still can be better than this as an offence. We can still be better.
I don’t even know the last time I score twice in the same game. I really don’t know, maybe Winnipeg a couple of years ago. It feels great though. I knew it was just a matter of time. I’ve just been waiting. I knew it was only a matter of time and I got it.
It was nice to bounce back this week. I don’t make excuses. I expect to make plays at all times. I didn’t make the plays I needed to make last week, but I made them this week. Now I’m going to go home and prepare myself to make them the next time we play. I know that stadium (Empire Field) is a tough place to play with the low lights and everything, so I’m going to have to really prepare myself to make some plays out there.
This team is really close, all the way across the board. We all get along with each other, we all support each other and that’s big. That’s huge in a locker-room when an offence supports a defence and a defence supports an offence. It’s big; not a lot of teams are like that.
I love the crowd. If it wasn’t for the crowd, if they don’t come in to this stadium, we don’t do what we do. They’re the most important thing that happens every game night. I love the crowd. I thank them for supporting us and coming out. We just want to go out and put on a good show for them. They buy a ticket and they expect a show.
On my first touchdown tonight, everyone keeps asking me about the celebration. I was pretending to tag with spray paint. I wrote my Twitter account — @nikel18 — on the little ad sign back there. On the second one, I just went over to the Who Dat Nik Lewis Nation over in my corner. It feels really good to be loved by the fans and feels even better to go out and make them happy.
Brock Shepherd is the one who created the Who Dat Nik Lewis Nation. He’s a fan and a friend of mine and I give all the credit to him. He started it. He brought the sign and now that’s what it is. The Who Dat Nik Lewis Nation.
Now I’m going home for the bye week. I’m going to check out my little brother’s football practice, visit with my little sister, see my mother, my grandmother and all my family. I’m going to enjoy some time with my fiancé and just enjoy a great week off and enjoy where we are at this point. I’m going to get back in the weight room and get back in that Texas heat. Go out and run in the heat and just enjoy it.
Take note. Welcome to South Beach.
