Anderson: Beware the Mechanic

It’s the Alberta rivalry tonight.

We’ll be wearing the retro uniforms tonight and I think that’s sweet. Ken-Yon likes it because it goes back to his days at Ohio State. It’s cool. I like the silver pants and the white horse on the helmet. It’s a different look and it’s a shout-out to the ’70s players. To me, it looks better this year than it did last year with the gold pants, which was too much like the 49ers. Being a former Ram, that 49ers look is no good.Anderson_100514.jpg

When you’re playing the Eskimos like we are this week, you always have to worry about Mr. Mechanic. That’s what I call Ricky Ray — Mr. Mechanic. If you don’t mess up his chain links, you’re going to have problems. His chain links are his receivers. You have to give him different looks and different coverages. You can’t just line up and always give the same look against Ricky because he’ll know what to do.

There’s been lots of talk this week about the way pass interference is being called but you can’t worry about it. At the end of the day, you still have to play ball. The officials might be looking a little bit closer now because of all the controversy but unless they’ve been out there on the field playing football, they can’t completely understand what it’s all about.

At the end of the day, you can’t worry about what outside people are saying. You just have get between the white lines and play ball.

The bye week is coming up next week but I haven’t been thinking about that because I’m not going anywhere. I have no big plans, so I haven’t really been thinking about that. I’ll still be here in Calgary and my family is here with me, so I’m good.

I’m glad I don’t have any plans because you can’t get caught up on what you’re going to be doing next week when you have a job to do next week. We have a game plan to execute and that’s what Coach Huff has been stressing all week.

You have to keep your mind focused on this game. Let’s wait until after the game to think about the bye week and hopefully by then, we’ll be 6-1.

We already know that Saskatchewan has won this week to put the pressure on us, but that’s OK — pressures busts pipes. That’s the way we look at it. We like that pressure.
